Anyone use Aviva? What are they like? I’m currently with Belair, because they were by far the cheapest option when I last shopped around a few years ago, but now it looks like they’re not even top ten. Aviva is coming out on top, but is there a reason for that?
Also interested in Sonnet if anyone’s got experience.
Car for your efforts:

I’ll say what I said to Tapas. As far as auto insurance goes (in markets where you have a choice *COUGH BC, Sask, Manitoba, COUGH*) it doesn’t matter.
It’s such a commodified/regulated product and the claims volume is so high and settlement guidelines so rigid/established that no matter what, you’re likely gonna get fucked over in a total loss scenario.
Shop on coverage and price.
Aviva is one of the world’s biggest insurers and I deal with their commercial P&C business every day. They’re legit if that’s what you’re worried about.
Sonnet isn’t an insurer, it’s just a sub-brand of Economical.
Big insurers don’t give a shit. That’s why I have a job.

I don’t know if this is to make fun of Sask and B.C. or what.

A Graham Spirit of Motion has a permanent place in my fantasy garage. It's like it comes from a future that never happened.

I was thinking that’s was probably the best thing to do but figured it was worth the ask. Googling various companies it seems like it’s less a matter of who’s good and more one of which turd will taste least worst as I swallow it. But then you’ll never hear the good stories on a review site...

I have no bad things to say about Manitoba. They would have insured me at 16 for $1500/yr, and from people who live there, if there are less claims than anticipated they will actually send everyone a refund at the end of the year. Hey, there’s got to be some benefits to living in Manitoba, right? (Typically I’d rather the government just butt out, but if they’re going to REQUIRE you to have something, I feel they should at least provide a basic option, and let you go find additional coverage elsewhere)

I forgot that Oppo had a resident insurance person. Thanks!

Honestly, the Crown corp insurance thing isn’t a bad idea. Auto insurance is basically unrecognizable from normal Property/Casualty (P&C) it is basically a utility at this point.

Quebec no fault insur ance is a great system, it’s cheap as fuck to insure your vehicles. I was sho cked to hear how much people in Ontario have to pay. The U.S. isn’t terrible either, I have full insurance on three vehicles for $1500/year.

Ontario is no fault too. But our rates make about as much sense as throwing babies off a bridge to cure cancer. Shrug emoji
